During the southern summer (November to April), the Pupu Rangi Nature Sanctuary opens its doors to explorers, volunteers, interns, and those interested in sleeping in a tree tent.

Green dates indicate more than two places available, Yellow dates indicate less than three places available, Red indicates no availability. Please note that our programs start and end on Mondays only, the only exception being the last week of each month when the program ends on a Friday.
To ensure that you can secure a spot, we recommend that you make a booking for the Intern and long term Conservation Volunteer positions at least six months in advance, for a short term Volunteer position and the Explorer program at least two months in advance, and for the Tree Tent Experience at least one month in advance.

To apply for a short-term Conservation Volunteer position (three weeks or less), please email us your preferred start date and length of stay so we can confirm the availability and fee.

Conservation Volunteer Availability Calendar
The Explorer program includes accommodation in the sanctuary (including two nights in a suspended tent from mid-December to the end of March), delicious meals, training, all of of the activities listed in the Explore section, and transfers to/from Whangarei. Programs start every Monday from November to March. The cost for the seven day Explorer Program is NZD 599 / EUR 349 / USD 390 (all taxes included). A NZD 100 deposit (non-refundable) is required to reserve a place in the program. This Experience includes a guided night walk in the forest, accommodation in a spacious suspended tent, dinner, and breakfast. You may participate in the Volunteer or Explorer activities that are scheduled during your stay.
The cost for a night in the sanctuary (between December and March) starts at NZD 200 / EUR 119 / USD 130 for one person or NZD 350 / EUR 200 / USD 230 for two persons (all taxes included).
The Pupu Rangi Nature Sanctuary is a not-for-profit organization and all of the proceeds from this program go towards the funding of the conservation efforts.
